Commercial, Residential, and Municipal Projects

At WGM Group, our projects and capabilities connect communities and conserve resources. Scroll below for a sampling of our past projects.

Community Medical Development

WGM Group worked on a multidiscipline team to provide survey and civil engineering services for Missoula’s Community Medical Center. We designed wells, pumps, and distribution piping for the groundwater heating and cooling system, and oversaw well installation and testing. To ensure uninterrupted patient care during construction, we carefully designed site and utility improvements and implemented precise phasing to minimize disruptions.

Downtown Whitefish Revitalization

WGM Group worked with the City of Whitefish to improve key intersections in the heart of downtown and to add pedestrian and bike paths to Memorial Bridge. The new designs enhanced multi-modal transportation options, addressing needs which were outlined in the Whitefish Downtown Master Plan as well as Connect Whitefish Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan.

Old Sawmill District Revitalization

Once a vital part of the wood products industry in western Montana, the Old Sawmill District is now on its way to becoming an exemplary brownfield and infill redevelopment that brings people together to live, work, and play. WGM Group provided land use planning, environmental engineering, project management, public relations, surveying, and general engineering for the revitalization of this site in the heart of Missoula, Montana.

Land Planning & Design Studio

WGM Group’s Land Planning & Design Studio has the ability to develop detailed artistic renderings for any site at any phase of development. Our skilled Landscape Architects and Planners capture our clients’ grand vision all the way down to detailed plantings. An artistic rendering helps bring investors and buyers in the door early, so our clients can secure the capital they need to advance projects.

North Higgins Streetscape

WGM Group provided project management, public involvement, design, and construction administration for this $1.6M roadway improvement project in downtown Missoula. The design included converting an existing four-lane downtown street to three lanes with protected bike lanes, pedestrian corner plazas, sidewalks, ADA ramps, storm drainage improvements, lighting, and landscaping. The project included the first protected bikeway in Montana and has been recognized in national publications, including the National Association of City Transportation Officials Urban Bikeway Design Guide.

Missoula County Fairgrounds Redevelopment

For the past seven years, WGM Group has been providing planning, landscape architecture, and engineering for redevelopment of the Missoula County Fairgrounds. WGM Group helped prepare design guidelines to steer the multi-year plan implementation and prepared site, utility, and landscape plans. The project was split into phases to allow improvements to happen as funding became available. Phases included public trails and walkways, plazas, lighting, interpretive signage, landscaping, irrigation, and streetscaping.

Hamilton High Athletic Facilities

WGM Group provided planning, site analysis, budgeting, design, and construction services for new varsity athletic facilities at Hamilton High School in Hamilton, Montana. Facilities were designed to meet National Federation of State High School Associations requirements and included a 10-lane coated track, coated high jump and pole vault areas, artificial turf field to accommodate football and soccer, and a 1,500-seat grandstand with press box, merchandise station, and warming rooms.

Downtown Helena Master Plan

WGM Group is proud to have helped the Helena Business Improvement District develop a Master Plan that will serve as the foundation for the community's future growth. Over 1,700 people participated in the planning process which resulted in guiding principles that address walkability; connecting with the community; creating a unique, high-quality environment; vibrant, year-round use; and convenient access, circulation, and parking for every-day services.

Main Street Water Infrastructure Replacement

WGM Group provided the engineering solution to efficiently replace aging infrastructure in the heart of downtown Missoula. The project included over 3,000 feet of water main rehabilitation using pipe bursting, as well as segments of cured in-place pipe and open cut replacement. The new main was pre-chlorinated and tested, allowing segments of main replacement and service connections to take place in a single day. This innovative replacement method had overwhelming support by the City of Missoula, downtown businesses, and urban residential properties because it minimized road impact, reduced time that users were without water, and provided an estimated 30% cost savings over traditional open cut main replacement.

Gallatin Canyon Wastewater Management Feasibility Study & GIS Analyses

The Gallatin River Task Force contracted WGM Group to conduct an evaluation of wastewater management for the developed corridor adjacent to the Gallatin River near Big Sky, Montana. Using advanced GIS (Geographic Information Systems) modeling, WGM Group GIS Specialists analyzed existing and projected wastewater flow rates, septic plumes, and associated nitrate loading to the river. The study analyzed different wastewater management scenarios as well as wastewater collection and conveyance to Big Sky Water and Sewer District's treatment facility. Using the results from the GIS analyses, WGM Group developed recommendations to guide the Task Force in choosing a wastewater management solution that will best serve the needs of the community.
