WGM announces leadership transition

After 20 years of visionary leadership at WGM Group, Melissa Matassa-Stone, PE, LEED AP, has decided to step down from her role as CEO to pursue a new opportunity at the University of Montana, effective March 7, 2025. Her dedication to our firm and the communities we serve has been invaluable, and we are grateful for her years of leadership.

We are excited to announce that Jeff Smith, PE, LEED AP, will take on the role of CEO. Smith’s proven leadership, deep experience within WGM Group, and commitment to innovation make him the ideal person to lead WGM Group into its 60th year and beyond. We look forward to the next chapter under his guidance and vision.

Smith earned a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Montana and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Idaho. He is actively involved in the community, serving as a member of the Executive Committee for the Missoula Area Chamber of Commerce and engaging with other organizations.

In a message to clients and associates, Smith said, “I’m honored to step into this role and continue working with such a talented team. Our focus will be on maintaining strong service to our clients and communities while exploring new opportunities for growth and innovation.”
