Miller Creek Roundabout: A Long Journey

The Miller Creek Road area has a very long history of transportation issues and studies. Suffice to say that after the spending of Millions of dollars, numerous design concepts, and countless public meetings, little if any ground had been gained toward actually implementing improvements.  Only through the vision of Tom McCarthy (the 'M' of WGM Group) and his ability, when nothing else was happening, to convince the developers of Maloney Ranch and Twite Properties that it was in their best interests to make advance payment of fees for future houses in order to fund improvements to Miller Creek Road did this project really get legs.

WGM Group worked to identify the amount of development yet to come in the Miller Creek Valley and to establish traffic volumes for future build-out. We then developed a few preliminary concepts of how to accommodate this traffic, particularly at the Miller Creek Road Y. It was then that a developer, recognizing the excellence of WGM's work, engaged us to prepare a preliminary design of the project, building off previous efforts that included a traffic signal at the Y intersection.  During meetings with the City, WGM made the bold statement that, despite the long held assumption that a traffic signal should be used at this location, a roundabout might be a better solution.  The City was open to this new approach and approved investigation of the concept, which led directly to the project we have today.

Go out and take a look at the project.  It's a gem.
